Mission - Adela A. Avila, 77, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at The Bridges in Mission, TX. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna
Adela A. Avila—known as “Leli” to all who loved and knew her—was many things to many people.
Born in October 1948 to Tranquilino M. and Rebecca H. Avila, Leli grew up in a large, loving family that shaped her independent spirit and deep appreciation for connection.
Leli had a beautiful smile that she freely shared with everyone she met. She had a special gift for making others forget their troubles—through a joke, a funny story, or one of her playful expressions that could instantly brighten a room.
She was a strong, resilient, and fiercely independent woman. She never married—often saying, “I don’t need that hassle.” And she never had children, explaining, “We grew up in a houseful of fourteen. I have plenty of nieces and nephews. I don’t need any of my own.” Family, in all its forms, was more than enough for her.
Leli traveled and lived in many places, from California to New York, whether to be close to family or to pursue work. She went where she was needed and trusted she would figure out the rest along the way. As she often said, “If life calls you, you have to go.”
She was also a very private person, choosing to live simply and quietly, yet those who were lucky enough to truly know her understood the depth of her love, loyalty, and strength.
Leli was preceded in death by her siblings Domingo Avila, Dr. Celestino Avila, Carlos Avila, Rebecca Avila Solis, Hortencia Avila Martinez, Lydia Avila Cazares, Glendelia Avila, and Aurora Avila Cereceres.
She is survived by her siblings Yolanda Avila Martinez, Miguel Angel Avila, Alfredo Avila, Richard Avila, Oscar Avila, Tranquilino Avila, and JJ Avila, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Leli will be deeply loved, missed, and forever remembered.
